Trusting the Gold: Uncovering Your Natural Goodness

with Tara Brach and Rick Hanson, PhD

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

A Book Launch/An Afternoon Event
Saturday, June 12, 2021, 1:00 – 2:30 pm ET

“The gold of our true nature can never be tarnished. In the moments of remembering and trusting this basic goodness of our Being, we open to happiness, peace, and freedom.” – Tara Brach

Best-selling author, Tara Brach returns to The Open Center for the launch of her new book, Trusting the Gold: Uncovering Your Natural Goodness.

Drawing on over 40-years experience as a psychologist and meditation teacher, Trusting The Gold features Dr. Brach’s insights, practices and Buddhist wisdom to help us uncover and trust the innate goodness in ourselves and others.

Do we have basic goodness? What are the evolutionary roots of altruism, loving-kindness and other expressions of our most valued human capacities? How do we evolve our heart and consciousness.

As we come out of the pandemic the teachings offered can help us with:

  • deepening our capacity for connection and intimacy as we re-enter in-person relationships
  • cultivating self-compassion and self-forgiveness
  • practices that reduce “bad-othering” in our dangerously polarized world
  • using this transitional time to align our actions with our heart.

During this afternoon’s workshop, Tara will be joined by Rick Hanson, PhD, author of Neurodharma, for a 20 minute discussion on the roots of evolutionary goodness and how neuroscience can help us cultivate our full potential, as well as explore how these practices can help us to awaken trust in our loving awareness, which is the source of all being.

Our time together will include a talk, guided meditation and time for inquiry and sharing.

The lecture includes your own copy of the beautifully illustrated book Trusting the Gold.

The book will be mailed after the event to participants with a current U.S. mailing address. If you are joining us from outside of the U.S., please contact Sona at sona@opencenter.org before registering for the event.

Note: This program will be offered online. Sessions of all our online programs will be recorded and shared with registrants after each is completed for 90 days.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Trusting the Gold

by Tara Brach

If you’ve ever felt trapped in a “trance of unworthiness”—filled with judgment about yourself and the others, or always feeling a sense of “not-enoughness”—you’re not alone. Yet I have seen time and again that we can learn to dissolve the layers of judgment and doubt to discover beneath them clarity, presence and love—which is the “gold” of our true essence.

What helps us uncover that gold? How can we learn to trust the pure awareness and love, the basic goodness that is our very essence? AND HOW CAN WE LEARN TO SEE THIS SAME SACRED PRESENCE IN ALL BEINGS, ALL LIFE? These questions have shaped my spiritual path, and in Trusting the Gold I share my own challenges and discoveries in stories that I hope you’ll find meaningful on your own journey.

In the book, I invite you to explore this path through the lenses of Truth, Love and Freedom. We begin with learning to recognize the Truth of our experience, by opening to life, just as it is. Then we discover how to awaken our inherent capacity to meet this ever-changing life with Love. This unfolding of presence and love reveals the Freedom of our true nature.

As we take this inner journey back to our true nature, we change the way we live, move and act in our lives. The more we learn to trust this loving presence as the truth of who we are, the more fully we can will call it forth in ourselves and in all those we touch.
