WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
Creative improvisation supports one’s ability to harness the emotional, aesthetic, organizing and communicative powers of music through live improvisation. During this two-day workshop, practical musical resources will be introduced through experiential music-making activities with a focus on interaction through various improv methods.
Topic highlights include:
- Experiential music-making class focused on instrumental, vocal, physical, verbal and emotional goal-directed improvisation
- Learn to improvise compositionally, creating melodic phrases, rhythmic patterns and songs
- Learn to develop and apply improvisation techniques to your therapeutic practice or use as a tool for personal development
Within this course, you will not only learn practical tools to apply creative improvisation in your therapeutic practice but also become familiar with various treatment strategies including supporting, enhancing, evoking and challenging yourself and clients to meet their goals through music.
This is the eighth course in the Integrative Sound & Music Certificate Program — a 12-part, 9-month intensive study of the power of sound and music — and can be taken as either part of the SMI Certificate Program or individually.
