Healing Songs of A Native American Mohawk Singer and Songwriter

with Bear Fox & Host, Kevin Nathaniel

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

An Evening Performance and Dialogue
Friday, February 26, 2021, 7:00 – 8:30 pm EST

Bear Fox, loved from coast-to-coast for her healing gift of song, will share songs of Native wisdom and musical tradition. Bear Fox writes songs in order to teach the Mohawk language through her music to native children and translates them into English.

On this evening Bear Fox will sing songs in both the Mohawk and English. The songs were created to protect and preserve the Kanienkeha (Mohawk Language), traditional Kanienkeha:ka (Mohawk People) customs, stories, and oral traditions that are passed down from grandmother to grand-daughter. It was founded on the principle that songs are the easiest way to pass on the language and culture to future generations. The songs contain specific messages that are important for the Mohawk people to know and remember.

Note: Kevin Nathaniel will serve as MC and will hold a dialogue with Bear Fox; includes a short Q&A.

Note: Please be sure you use a headset or headphones with your laptop/computer to have the best experience during this event.

Note: This is the third of a series of four evenings curated by Kevin Nathaniel, director of Afro Roots. (Following date: March 5, 2021. View all concerts HERE.)

Note: This program will be offered online. Sessions of all our online programs will be recorded and shared with registrants after each is completed for 90 days.

“I am hoping that my songs inspire our people to try to achieve their goals and dreams. That they will walk the good path and not rely on mind changers (drugs and alcohol). That our people will want to learn our culture and traditions, and hang on to the language because there are only a handful who are trying to hang on to the language for the future generations to come.” – Bear Fox
