Dra. T’Karima Ticitl, PhD, LM, CM, is an Indigenous woman born in California, and raised as a Xicana Indigenous person; her family is from Zacatecas and Jalisco, Mexico, with Mexica/Wixárika origins. She is a certified/licensed midwife in NY/NJ, an instructor, an author and a peyotl ceremonial roadwoman in the Native American Church; T’Karima is also a traditional Mexica dancer with her danza group, Kalpulli Huehuetlahtolli. She co-founded Traditional Doula & Midwifery Arts (TDMA) and is the founder of Cihuapahtli Matriarch Council, Inc. She has authored six books which include: Decolonizing Nahua/Mexica/Aztec Children’s Literature, Evolution of Traditional Doula & Midwifery Arts, Boy Can Have Long Hair, Too, Blooming Flower, Shooting Star, Birth is a Ceremony and My Body, My Birth.
