  • Improve relationships and empathic abilities
  • Increase your stress resilience and renew your energy
  • Connect to your inner-self and others

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Millions are suffering from stress, mood problems and trauma-related problems, which have only been exacerbated and perpetuated by the current coronavirus pandemic. Studies have shown that evidence-based voluntarily regulated breathing practices (VRBPs) can significantly improve symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress-related medical conditions. At the same time, these trauma-sensitive practices can help restore feelings of safety, meaningful connection, bonding and love for those who experience states of disconnection or emotional numbing—both common consequences of trauma and loss. Further, VRBPs can facilitate psychotherapy by reducing anxiety and defensiveness, providing tools for emotional self-regulation, relieving symptoms and improving relationships. They can also be used to reduce the amount of medication needed to control anxiety, insomnia and other symptoms of stress.

This course will explore not only the practical application of these tools, but also the evidence behind them. You’ll learn how to regulate and balance the nervous system, voluntarily calm the stress response, uplift mood, and reduce cravings. Drawn from yoga, Buddhist meditation, Qigong and Christian monastic practices, these transformative techniques have been shown to be effective—you’ll also delve into the neuroscience of breath practices, the autonomic nervous system, developmental effects of trauma, emotion regulation, polyvagal theory and vagal-GABA theory.

Walk away understanding how to use these techniques, and also how to share them. This course is particularly impactful for healthcare providers bearing the burdens of the coronavirus crisis and their families. Anecdotes point to healthcare worker’s use of VRBPs to reduce their own level of stress, fatigue and frustration and enhance energy, enthusiasm, engagement and empathy.

This work is recommended as a healing method for both adults and children, and  which can include yoga teachers, military veterans, and individuals with PTSD, anxiety, depression, ADD, cancer and other medical conditions.
