Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning using very thin, long needles at very precise points on the body.
How does acupuncture work? The classical Chinese believed that channels of energy run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These energy channels, called meridians, flow through the body to vitalize and nourish the tissues. An obstruction in the movement of this energy is like a dam that backs up. The meridians can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points, which can unblock the obstructions, and reestablish the regular flow.
Acupuncture helps the body’s internal organs to correct imbalances in digestion, absorption and in the circulation of their energy through the meridians. Acupuncturists are commonly sought to work neck or cervical pain, shoulder pain, lower back pain, sciatica, hip pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia, headaches and migraines, chronic fatigue syndrome, sinus problems, arthritis, jaw and face pain, irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual problems, smoking addiction, weight control, and infertility. Results with acupuncture can be intense and usually noticeable after just one session.
