Date & Time
New York is the loneliest city in America. Only 10% of people who live here think that it’s easy to make friends. At the same time, we’re often totally disconnected from other generations–even though we’re known as America’s melting pot. This prevents elders from passing on their knowledge, and younger folks from bringing their fresh ideas to other populations.
Join the author of Unlonely Planet, Jillian Richardson, for an intergenerational conversation about how to make New York a more connected place. You will be part of a facilitated discussion about where you feel like you belong, and what your own relationship with loneliness is like. Our goal is to help you connect with your fellow New Yorkers and learn simple ways to create a stronger sense of community.
This evening will include: greeting and icebreakers; guided meditation; introduction to the book Unlonely Planet; and facilitated conversation in groups of three.
Note: There will be a booksigning in the lobby after the lecture/conversation. Copies of the book Unlonely Planet are available in the Open Center bookstore. This book launch is one of the first events in a campaign that Jillian co-founded called “Less Lonely NYC: Make A Million New Yorkers Less Lonely.” It is in partnership with GoogleX and BLK SHP.
Note: Registration will be broken down by age groups. Please register using the link below for your age group. There is limited availability for each age group.
