Esoteric refers to what is veiled, eclipsed, occulted, the inside story, the depth of things. The quest for what lies “beyond, behind, below” the way it seems is a universal feature of humanity. While other approaches to life emphasize belief, or measurement, and logic to find the line between real and unreal, the esoteric view highlights life as lived, in experience and action.

In this series, we will consider the role of alterations of consciousness in esoteric traditions, with examples from the Old World / Northern Hemisphere and the New World / Southern Hemisphere. This program includes experiential exercises and suggested readings.

The program consists of three modules, which can be taken as a series for a combo price, or individual workshops independent from each other.

Note: This program will be offered online. Sessions of all our online programs will be recorded and shared with registrants after each is completed for 90 days.

Quest Patterns: Altered States, Depths and Traits
Saturday, October 30, 2021, 10:30 am – 1:00 pm ET

Ordinary awareness is like a boat anchored in a familiar bay. Esoteric traditions preserve and promote a treasury of methods for freeing awareness and guiding it “beyond, behind, below”.  Altered states of consciousness can give us glimpses into the depth of things. For esotericists, the aim is not just a temporary trip, but a permanent, trait-like shift in the sense of self and world.

Nine Measures of Magic: Egyptian Magic Under the Pharaohs, Ptolemies and Emperors
Saturday, November 6, 2021, 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM ET

In antiquity, it was thought that Egypt received nine of the ten measures of magic allotted to humanity. Temple priests and magical entrepreneurs used visions, rituals and oracles to reach goals profane and profound, including “immortalization” or becoming divine. Magic mingled with alchemy and Hermetism in Alexandria to launch the Western esoteric tradition.

Journeys to the Center of the Earth: Andean Mysteries of Chavín de Huántar and Tiwanaku
Saturday, November 13, 2021, 10:30 am – 1:00 PM ET

The Andes featured some of the world’s oldest esoteric quests. Three thousand years ago, pilgrims trekked to the shrine at Chavín de Huántar to consume hallucinogens and merge with the jaguar deity. Centuries before the Incas, Tiwanaku was another sacred magnet, drawing seekers through the Gate of the Sun and up a massive green pyramid to the junction of heaven and earth.
