Date & Time
9:30 am - 4:30 pm
“With every breath, I plant the seeds of devotion; I am a farmer of the heart”. – Rumi.
In Mevlana’s words, music begins where speech ends, and it has the ability to contain and expose what words are unable to. The language of music is universal. It is the language of lovers.
Spend an entire day immersed in the ancient, ecstatic Sufi practice of whirling and Zikrullah, or Zikr. This traditional practice of reciting Divine Names, along with singing and dancing in community with others, opens the heart, uplifts the soul and is said to bring us into union with God.
During this workshop, we will feel physically how to manage and support ourselves while we share the basic mechanics that are the foundation of the practice of whirling, so each of us can experience it within our own possibilities. The workshop aims to provide a holistic experience, involving and preparing the body, mind and heart. We will work on awakening the experience of hearing: on contemplating and experiencing this world, the existence and our essence through our unique way of hearing.
No previous experience is required. Join us and open your heart to the Sufi path of love and the inspiration of divine ecstasy:
•Experience firsthand the practices that distinguish Sufism as a path of love
•Explore the powerful, symbolic meanings of Zikr
•Engage in the sacred communal chanting of Divine Names
The day will culminate in a full, lively experience of Zikr with chanting, moving, singing and whirling.
