“I feel more and more every day, as my imagination strengthens, that I do not live in this world alone but in a thousand worlds.”
~ John Keats (1818)

Defining the imagination is like grabbing the wind. Imagining is ambiguous, ambivalent, creative and subversive. Controlling others’ imaginations has long been a means of oppression; but fresh imaginings can bring liberation and healing. And imagination has featured since time immemorial in the quest for the sacred.

Spiritual and magical esoteric practices like hermetism, theurgy, alchemy and Kabbalah have always been entwined with imagination.

In this series we will ponder ideas about imagination through the ages, connect the creative nature of imagination to the core esoteric traditions and unlock a tool-kit of concepts for the study of esoteric imagination.

These three workshops are co-sponsored with the Centre for Myth, Cosmology and the Sacred

Lynx: Imagination and the Well of Being
Saturday, May 1, 2021, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM ET

In old Greek lore the lynx was the cat with x-ray eyes, able to see beneath the surface of things. It is an apt symbol of imagining’s power to disclose esoteric depths. In this session we will explore some of the ways that esoteric seekers have understood and harnessed the promise of imagination. Participants will also learn techniques that open the esoteric world to direct experience. There will be opportunity for actual practice, and for interaction with other participants.

Butterfly: Imagination and the Fount of Change
Sunday, May 2, 2021, 10:00 am – 1:00 PM ET

The butterfly is an age-old symbol of transformation. It is also linked with the imaginal realm, hidden from the physical senses and the mind’s thoughts, where potent forces of change dwell. In this session we will consider the role of esoteric imagination in evolution, review imaginal healing methods and foster communion with the natural world through esoteric imagination. There will be opportunity for actual practice, and for interaction with other participants.
