For centuries, music and mantra therapy have proven to be a powerful means to overcome physical and emotional imbalances, and elevate consciousness. This workshop seeks to give you understanding and skills to help others and for your personal life. With the combination of breath and sound, mantra chanting activates healing and has the alchemical capacity to clear energetic channels to transform emotions and consciousness.
This class focuses on the science and the experience of chanting ancient vibrational healing formulas that have the power to purify, protect, and clear the minds of both those who recite and those who listen. Special emphasis will be given to Sanskrit mantras, including powerful one-syllable bija (seed) mantras of the yoga tradition. We will explore how mantra awakens prana (life-force) to engender healing in self and others; the general kinds of mantras (purifying, wish-fulfilling, nurturing, healing and enlightening) the basic alphabet and ‘language” of the chakras (subtle energy centers); how to develop our own personal practice; the role of awareness and breath; use of mudra (hand seals), bandha (energy “locks”), and kumbhak (breath suspension); and how to offer sound meditation and healing to others. We will learn about the role of chitta (consciousness) and how to begin to read our own and others ’subtle bodies to aid in energetic healing.
Note: This class is suited to wellness practitioners, healthcare professionals, therapists, and teachers wanting to bring sound and sacred melody to their clients and students, and anyone seeking to deepen their personal practice. No previous experience is required.
