A Weekly Series
(5 Sessions) Thursdays, April 15 – May 13, 2021, 6:00 – 7:15 pm ET

In this series of classes with highly accomplished yoga teacher Maggie Law, who has decades of experience in a wide range of yoga styles and other healing modalities, we will practice Traditional Yoga with Taoist influences. Each class will include a set of 8 to 10 movements designed to cleanse and balance our subtle energy centers (chakras) and boost our overall energy.

We will place a special focus on understanding how to use our breath (prana) properly, the essence of all yoga. The breathing exercises we will learn include belly breathing, cleansing breathing, pranayama (controlled breathing); and the “breath of fire” (contra-indicated for pregnant women). We will emphasize practicing each movement or pose with balanced breath, which helps stretch the body and activate the chakras, and dramatically boosts the health benefits of yoga.

The material covered in the class will include: 22 basic, easy-to-learn yoga poses (SEE LIST BELOW) sequenced to unblock our chakras starting from the base of the spine up to the top of the head; special lymph-node cleansing exercises (including tapping/massage techniques that stimulate meridian points to enhance chi circulation, blood flow, muscle relaxation and the balancing of yin and yang energies); mantra chanting that harmonizes the vibrations of our body/mind; two special yoga mudras (hand gestures), one used to enhance concentration, memory and wisdom, and one that helps us understand intuitive messages from our subconscious in dreams or meditation; mind-strengthening exercises; and shavasana, a pose used to loosen the body, mind and spirit into a natural state of relaxation to help rejuvenate and achieve deep healing.

The practices we will learn can help us radically improve our circulation, digestion, flexibility, balance, strength, immunity, skin complexion, etc., to help us leave behind such ailments as excessive anxiety, negative emotions, chronic muscle tension, headaches, insomnia, etc. Don’t miss the opportunity to add these powerfully effective techniques to your self-care toolkit.

Note: Students should refrain from eating 2 hours prior to the class and wear loose and comfortable clothing (cotton or linen is best, and wearing socks is fine if desired). Students will of course be asked to turn off cell-phones, as we will be seeking to maintain quiet, undisturbed environments.
