Astrology, if used wisely, is an elegant tool that can be of great assistance in both our inner development and in navigating life, helping guide some of our key practical choices and timing decisions. Within Western astrology’s symbolic system, the closest planets to Earth, named for ancient Roman Gods, play an important part in determining our personal gifts and the challenges we will face in specific domains of life.

The basic life function symbolized by each planet—

Takes on very different flavors in each person depending on the sign (and house of the horoscope) of each planet.

For example, the energy symbolized by Mercury, the planet of thought and communication, will express itself very differently in the sign of Pisces, which sees the big picture and communicates most effectively through images, music or spiritual silence; than in a person with Mercury in the sign of Gemini, who will tend to thrive on learning about a variety of subjects and absorb information very rapidly.
