The core yoga practice of meditation (dhyana) unburdens us of fear and reveals our true nature as freedom itself. It purifies us from the emotional and psychological conditions and habit patterns called samskaras. In this class, we will learn and experience some of the transformative practices of the esoteric yoga tradition:
- basic awareness and breath meditation
- pranayama (breathing methods)
- meditation to free us from attachment and aversion (raga and dvesha)
- self-inquiry (atma vichara)
- consciousness and life force practice (chitta/prana meditation)
- spontaneous meditation (sahaj), and more
These practices will help us purify our body and mind of kleshas (inner obstacles), so that we can more fully experience the union of Sat-chid-ananda—our real nature as truth, consciousness and joy—in our every day lives.

He is a founding member of, and has been a senior teacher at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health for over 40 years, and is President Emeritus of the NY Open Center in New York City.
