Creative live improvisation enables one to harness the emotional, aesthetic, organizing, and communicative powers of music. During this workshop, practical musical resources will be introduced through experiential music-making activities with a focus on interaction and instrumental, vocal, physical, verbal, and emotional goal-directed improvisation. Dr. Turry will demonstrate how do improvise compositionally, creating melodic phrases, rhythmic patterns, and songs, which they can use in their therapeutic practice or as tools for personal development. Video examples from clinical work will be shared to illustrate the approach. Students will also become familiar with various treatment strategies, including supporting, enhancing, evoking, and challenging themselves or their clients, to meet their goals through music.
