Date & Time
5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Brenda Yarnold, MA, E-RYT 200, E-LVCYTT
A knowledge of Chair Yoga can open many opportunities to teach yoga in settings such as hospitals, senior centers, and nursing homes, bringing the healing benefits of yoga to those who have previously been unable to take part in even a gentle yoga class. Chair Yoga is designed to help those limited by age, weight, handicap, or inflexibility.
In this comprehensive certification course, students will learn how to adapt a number of classical yoga asanas to a chair (or chairs), as well as master breathing and relaxation techniques, chanting, meditation, and foot reflexology. We also learn to use light weights while seated to build muscle and bone mass.
Participants will leave with a certificate for 25 hours of teacher training in Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga and the skill and confidence to offer one-hour classes to varied audiences.
You will learn to:
- Teach a 1-hour therapeutic Chair Yoga class
- Choose appropriate postures and breathing techniques according to individual need
- Adapt postures to levels of flexibility
- Understand precautions and contraindications for poses and breathing techniques
- Include other Eastern modalities to improve health and well-being
Notes: This training is for yoga teachers, teachers-in-training, healthcare practitioners and others with at least 15 hours of yoga experience. Bring a pair of 1- or 2-pound dumbbells. Tuition includes 200-page illustrated teacher’s manual and a DVD. After registering, contact Bruce Binder at (760)-774-1752 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
