Alessandra Belloni & Steve Gorn
Internationally renowned singer, tambourine virtuoso and great reviver of ancient southern Italian music, Alessandra Belloni, joins world famous master bansuri flautist Steve Gorn in a special performance to celebrate the Summer Solstice. Blending healing chants, dance, and drum which honor the Black Madonna, who is revered in authentic ancient southern Italian spiritual teachings as Jesus’s mother Mary, representing all souls seeking union with the Divine. Alessandra shares mystical teachings and physical movements that help to calm our minds, relax our bodies, and let go of emotional blockages.
Based in the Christian tradition with roots in the pre-Christian worship of the Earth Mother and the archetype of the African Mother, the Black Madonna is an all-embracing compassionate mother/female aspect of God who guides all humanity regardless of race, class or religion. The Black Madonna archetype takes different guises across cultures. In Brazil, by way of African traditions, she is called Yemaja (Madonna of the Sea). Alessandra shares techniques that help us access Yemaja’s healing energy.
Connect to the divine and revitalize your weary spirit during this powerful evening drawing from a beautiful and inspiring ancient tradition that lives on today through spiritual pilgrimages, town processions, ceremonial rituals, and expressive dances. Be transported into another realm where dancing and music can heal, where spirituality and sensuality are not diametrically opposed, where all things are truly possible.
Alessandra will be joined by Wilson Montuori on guitar, Mara Gerety on violin; dancers: Francesca Silvano and Peter de Geronimo.
