Robert H. Lustig

Robert H. Lustig, M.D., M.S.L. is Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, and Member of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF. Dr. Lustig is a neuroendocrinologist, with expertise in metabolism, obesity, and nutrition. He is one of the leaders of the current “anti-sugar” movement that is changing the food industry. Dr. Lustig graduated from MIT in 1976, and received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College in 1980. He also received his Masters of Studies in Law (MSL) degree at University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2013. He is the author of the popular books Fat Chance (2012), The Hacking of the American Mind (2017), and the just released book Metabolical: The Lure and the Lies of Processed Food, Nutrition, and Modern Medicine,. He is the Chief Science Officer of the non-profit Eat REAL, he is on the Advisory Board of the Center for Humane Technology, Simplex Health, and Levels Health, and he is the Chief Medical Officer of BioLumen Technologies, Foogal, Perfact, and Kalin Health.

Dean Sluyter (pronounced “slighter”) has led meditation workshops and retreats throughout the U.S. since 1970, at venues ranging from Ivy League colleges to maximum-security prisons. For thirty-three years he taught English and developed the Literature of Enlightenment program at The Pingry School in New Jersey. Sluyter has trained with sages in several traditions, including Vajrayana Buddhism, Advaita, Bhakti Yoga, and Umbanda. Mary Cosimano

Mary Cosimano, LMSW, is currently with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is the Director of Guide Services for the Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research and has served as study guide and research coordinator for the psilocybin studies for over 20 years. During that time, Mary has been a session guide, involved with the psilocybin and club drug studies and has conducted over 475 study sessions. She has trained post-doctorate fellows, research assistants and faculty as guides and taught individual and group meditation to breast cancer patients in a Johns Hopkins research study. She teaches at California Institute to Integral Studies for their Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research program and conducts trainings for therapists in psychedelic psychotherapy. In 2003 she started a meditation group for employees in her department. She also has 15 years of experience with direct patient care as a hospice volunteer. In addition to her interest in altered states of consciousness, Mary enjoys time with family, friends, nature, reading, walking, meditation and playing games.

Sister Kate was a consultant, who helped clients open businesses in newly deregulating industries around the world. But after a divorce, and as a newly single mother with three children, she was forced to give up this career and move to Central Valley, California. While there, Sister Kate created work and leadership opportunities for women like herself. In 2009, she founded a non-profit cannabis collective and opened for business in 2010. Here, she served cannabidiol medicine to local terminal patients, so they could experience its healing effects without needing to smoke it. In 2014, Sister Kate developed a line of products that were safe, non-addictive and non-psychoactive and then founded the Sisters of the Valley. Their small farm is now a worldwide organization and is today cultivating, extracting and distributing CBD products with sales of over $1 million a year.

Sister Quinn relocated from Vancouver, Canada, to the coast of California, where she later studied Economics at the University of California, Merced. Today, she works full-time as the User Experience Specialist for the University of California, in Merced and part-time for the Sisters on special projects. She has worked locally and in Silicon Valley in various marketing and technology roles. Currently, Sister Quinn will soon launch the enclave’s global content management platform. She is passionate about obtaining a zero carbon footprint, in order to respect Mother Earth and feminism.

Sister Sophia is from South Africa and later moved to the United States. She has an MBA from the University of Michigan and has extensive business experience. She joined the Sisters of the Valley in 2018. Today, she oversees a growing number of boutique stores around the world showcasing the Sisters’ CBD products. Sister Sophia and her team are focused on getting the most amount of medicine to people around the world while creating a blueprint and process to onboard other enclaves interested in following the tenets and customs of the Sisterhood.
