On the second Sunday in November, our current Coaching for Transformation (CFT) class graduated. What a beautiful time of connection and celebration! As we honored 9 months of learning, hard work, commitment, growth, and the deep cross-cultural community ties we formed, there was awareness in each of us that this was both a completion and a new beginning. It was a time to draw on our individual and collective past, while transitioning into a new phase of growth and possibility!
In one of our circle sharing times that day, several students reflected on their first introduction to CFT in a free intro to the training, and how significantly their lives have changed since that day – since that decision to venture off into the world of coaching with its promise for individual transformation, and training to support transformation in others. That was a new beginning, and their graduation represents yet another – one ripe with possibilities. Steven Filante (my CFT co-leader) and I are now eagerly anticipating our series of free intro sessions, starting on Dec 6, where we have the chance to meet people who are looking to begin a new chapter of their lives through coaching and considering joining our CFT community.
During this year’s graduation day, we each had an opportunity to give a short presentation to express the impact and experience of our time together in the CFT learning community. As I stood to give my 4-minute presentation, I began with: “The first thing I want to say is [pause] ROARRRRRR!” This was a loud ROAR that came from deep within me – with a complete lack of inhibition. The class exploded into heart-felt laughter!
That ROAR represented my decision to step into even more of my personal power this year as I approach my 60th birthday in January. This birthday comes with excitement and anticipation rather than with the often-expressed dread of aging. It represents yet another new beginning – one in which I choose to take more risks, to be bolder and more innovative, and less safe and careful – while remaining loving and supportive. It represents a choice to stretch into the more that is possible in me and through me as I seek to become even more of an agent of change through my coaching. And more importantly, the ROAR represented the students’ contribution to my journey as I invited them to call out more power in me when they were learning how to do it with the clients they coach.
In our Calling Out the Power class, the students had me fully embody the energy of a lion and had me move and roar from that place of deep connectedness with the power and fluidity of a lion. Feeling the fullness of that energy was transformational for me and for the students. They were able to witness what’s possible when they fiercely and lovingly call out the power we as coaches see in our clients to express the deep longings of their hearts. They were able to witness, yet again, the vulnerability Steven Filante and I express as part of co-creating the rich CFT learning community we share with our students that invites them to bring all parts of themselves forward. We too grow and expand as individuals, while we teach and support learning, cross-cultural connection and sharing in our CFT classes.
For all of us, I see four important takeaways:
More is always possible than any of us can see clearly at a particular point in time.
It’s never too late to lean into more of the things our heart desires.
Success is much easier when we have a support team who believes in us and who we are accountable to.
Endings are simply opportunities for powerful new beginnings.
It’s simply a matter of perspective and a willingness to take a risk!
