Patti Mollica

painting by Patti MollicaThis class is both for experienced painters who want to loosen up and learn a new, fun, expressive way to paint, and for beginners who want to get up to speed quickly. The focus of the workshop will be not what we paint, but how we paint it. Using acrylic paints, we will learn a step-by-step method of painting a simple still-life (working from either still-life set-ups or photographs, depending on our preference) using big brushes and lots of paint in a fast, bold expressive manner. Classes will start out with basic instructions in composition, color mixing and brush handling, followed by a demonstration, then practice. The focus will be on capturing large shapes and colors rather than rendering small details and working quickly and decisively with as few brush strokes as possible while using color intuitively and boldly. Come liberate your creativity with this joyous approach to painting.

Note: The class atmosphere is non-judgemental—all skill levels are welcomed and supported. A materials list will be provided upon registration. Feel free to bring one or two very simple objects or photos you might like to use as subjects of a still-life.
