Did Rumi and Ibn 'Arabi Meet?
It is remarkable that two such great mystical figures as Ibn 'Arabi and Rumi should have overlapped in time and space, and yet apparently had little to do with each other.
But did they actually meet physically?
According to some sources when Rumi was a young boy, Ibn 'Arabi met with Rumi's father Bahā'uddīn Walad, himself a sufi and a man of profound mystical insight. The young Rūmī was with his father and after the meeting when Bahā'uddīn left with his son tagging along behind him, the Shaykh al-Akbar said: "What an extraordinary sight, there goes a sea followed by an ocean!"
