This series will explore Jewish Kabbalistic mysticism through the lives and teachings of four of the most inspiring and influential figures of this ancient wisdom tradition.
Rabbi Moshe Kordovero:The Philosopher Rabbi Kordovero (1522-1570) synthesized all the major topics of mysticism into his classic work Pardes Rimonim (The Garden of Pomegranates) at the age of 27 in 1549. He founded a renowned mystical school in Tzfat, Israel, where many of the greatest mystics of the age studied. We will discuss three of his most influential texts: Ohr Yakar (commentary on the Zohar), Tomer Devorah (teachings on the Thirteen Divine Attributes) and Pardes Rimonim. Rabbi Isaac Luria (The Ari): Mystic of Mystics Rabbi Isaac Luria (1534-1572) is considered the greatest Kabbalist of all time. We'll explore his teachings on reincarnation, kavanah (intention), the cosmic order of the four worlds and the ten sefirot. Monday, November 24, 8-10pm 08FSJ10TB
Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov:The Waker The founder of Chassidism, "the Besht" (1698-1760), emphasized that each person had the power to access the divine. Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi:The Bridge Rabbi Schneur Zalman (1745-1812), the founder of Chabad Chassidism, drew from all previous mystical and Talmudic teachings to create the most comprehensive blueprint for modern life, uniting faith, reason, spirit and matter.
