Deep Listening PDF Print E-mail

To deepen our listening, to listen more accurately, genuinely and fruitfully, we need to master two related abilities: listening to the other and listening in ourselves. We must be able to attend to our own inner process, and yet not get lost within ourselves and become inattentive to others. Deep listening is a process that allows us to find this balance.

Hope Martin, a leading teacher of the Alexander Technique since 1987, will lead us in three different contemplative forms to help us develop our ability to listen: Buddhist meditation to help us create a ground of stillness and clarity; Alexander Technique to make us aware of our unconscious postural and movement patterns that interfere with our innate ease and equilibrium; and Focusing, which uses our awareness of subtle sensations to release blockages and allow the wisdom of our whole being to be heard.

The class will include periods of meditation, experiential exercises and one-on-one listening partnerships.
