The tan tien (or navel center) is considered by Taoist practitioners to be the most important place in the body to collect and store chi energy. Tan means medicine or pill; tien means field; the tan tien is therefore considered to be a person’s “medicine field,” the center of gravity of the physical body and the storehouse of its core strength. The condition of the belly affects the entire body, mind, and spirit. Tonight, with renowned Taoist teacher and author, Mantak Chia, we will learn some simple techniques from Tan Tien Chi Kung, a system of Taoist practices that can radically increase our vitality, strengthen our organs and enhance our self-healing.
