Doulas have long helped women through labor. Now a new kind of doula is helping dying people and their loved ones at the end of life. This evening, Henry Fersko-Weiss, who created the first end-of-life doula program modeled on the work done by labor doulas, will discuss: how this program is transforming the final hours and days of dying people's lives; the special presence doulas bring to a dying person's bedside; how doulas use guided visualization, aromatherapy, massage and ritual to bring peace and comfort to caregivers; and how after a death the doula can help loved ones find greater healing in their time of grief.
