I want this." "I'm scared of that." "I'm happy/ depressed/confused." The root of all such ideas is our unexamined, highly inaccurate notion of "I." By breaking out of this false sense of self, we can experience boundless freedom. Buddhist teachings maintain that the I-sense is insubstantial, like an optical illusion, and they offer us powerful meditative techniques for seeing through it. This evening workshop will focus on intensive practice of three such techniques--natural meditation, exchanging self and other, and giving and receiving--and on integrating them into our daily lives. We will also explore the Six Paramitas, principles for transforming all our routine activities into means of breaking out of illusion.
