Free introductory class!
Many people have a desire to paint abstractly but don't know how to go about it. This class lays the groundwork with practical exercises designed to help us use realism to get to abstraction. In a relaxed and experimental atmosphere, each week we'll begin our exploration with either an abstracted still life, doodles and repeated gestures, accidental blots, dots and drips, color or collaboration. These various starting points will allow us to access our unconscious, develop a sense of the patterns underlying the visible world, learn to let go and build a sense of aesthetic courage. We'll use a variety of materials ranging from charcoal to ink to acrylic paint on paper. This class is open to all levels as we will deal with basic technique for the beginner and subject matter for the more advanced. Come discover new ways of seeing and find your own path to authentic abstraction.
