The Tarot, ostensibly a deck of elaborately decorated cards, is in fact a symbolic system whose images express a mystical philosophy with roots in Pythagorean, Platonic and Hermetic ideas that have been cherished by Western mystics over the centuries. Once one grasps the Tarot’s philosophy and structure, the cards can be used as an intuitive device to connect with one’s inner wisdom or Higher Self—the sage-like guiding principle that exists in the unconscious mind.
