Desire and Love
Who do we love? What do we love? Love and desire are two distinctly different movements—it requires mindfulness and vigilance to know the difference. Using mindfulness practice we can enable the movement of love to take place without the problematic features of desire.

Risk, Change and Wisdom: A Buddhist View
There are many forms of risk-taking that garner attention in our culture. In fact, the courage to take risks is a valuable quality, and in dharma life we learn to take risks to grow as human beings. How do we do this productively in a way that enables us to make substantive changes in our lives and reach our potential?

Normally we harden and react in response to fear, causing harm to ourselves and others. We will discover how through meditation practice, which teaches us to relax with our experience as it is, we can learn to face our fears with gentleness and curiosity. In this way the experience of fear can become a pathway to tenderness and greater humanity, leading to loving kindness for ourselves and our world. The class will focus on how we can relate personally to these teachings and apply them to our lives, and will include guided meditation practice and discussion. There will be assigned readings each week.
