Infant Massage USA’s Certified Educator of Infant Massage (CEIM) training is an evidence based, comprehensive 4-day training course that covers all aspects of instructing parents on infant massage and nurturing touch. Upon completion of the CEIM course, a graduate is qualified to teach infant massage strokes to individual parents as well as to confidently organize and conduct classes in Infant Massage. Nurses, midwives, childbirth educators, early intervention specialists, NICU staff, OTs and PTs and many others have found this training to be a wonderful tool in their work with parents and babies.

The CEIM Training, based on the 15-point curriculum developed by Vimala McClure, author of Infant Massage: A Handbook for Loving Parents, includes participation in supervised parent-baby infant massage classes; the learning of protocols, adaptations and techniques to work with families and their babies with special needs; and guidance for working with parents/families in private, group, hospital and agency settings. Certification opens the door for subsequent participation in research studies and professional conferences.

The training curriculum includes: the benefits of infant massage; the relationship between massage and bonding; research on the effects of touch; understanding and supporting parents; infant cues, crying and behavioral states; massage techniques and how to adapt them to infants and children at different stages of growth; massage for special situations (colic, babies born prematurely, etc.); infant handling and positioning; communication, teaching, group facilitation and lesson planning skills; the marketing and promotion of massage classes; safety guidelines for the use of oils; etc.

Led by Jeff Migdow, MD, with Robyn Ross, RYT

A Registered Yoga Alliance Course

Prana is the Sanskrit word for universal energy or “life force,” analogous to the Chinese concept of “chi” or what homeopaths call “vital force.” In the yogic tradition, prana is seen as pervading and animating the universe, flowing through all things, including us. Yogic practices are designed to increase the flow of prana in our bodies and minds to facilitate healing and expand consciousness. Increased pranic flow enhances mental clarity, emotional stability and physical vitality. In this Prana Yoga teacher training course, you will learn how to practice and teach yoga as a profound science that unites movement, breath, sound, concentration, meditation and prayer. Approached in this way, yogic practice becomes a deeply potent healing and transformational path. This course will enable you to become a teacher of yoga at its essence and greatly expand the depth and power of your practice and the healing experiences of your students.

This course which takes place over an 11 weekend period will include:

• Learning to practice and teach 22 basic postures in a deep and healing way
• Practicing prana yoga together for one hour at the beginning of each session
• Learning specific breathing techniques and mantras/sounds for each posture
• Learning the optimal way to enter the postures for best alignment and safety, including modifications for many different conditions to facilitate healing in yourself and your students
• Basic Western and yogic anatomy and physiology, including how prana yoga impacts each part of our physical and subtle bodies
• The history and philosophy of yoga, including the study of ancient yogic texts, such as the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras
• Direct experiences of prana in your body through meditation techniques, mantra chanting and specific chakra techniques
• Three full-day practice teaching sessions in a safe setting to help you gain confidence as a prana yoga teacher

We will learn, play and teach together in a relaxed yet focused way. To help keep you in touch with the training between sessions, there will be practice teaching assignments, inspirational and practical reading, journaling of your personal experience and ways to stay in touch with each other. Jeff and Robyn ask that you agree to practice prana yoga at least five days a week during the course to stay in touch with the practice and yourself. Also, in order that we all begin with a basic knowledge of the postures, you must have practiced hatha yoga regularly for at least three months and/or have taken at least six months of weekly classes.

The course will build on whatever form of yoga you have been trained in. Yoga teachers and students from all schools and traditions are welcome. Join us for a nine-month journey into the essence of yoga and the healing power of prana. A teaching certificate will be given upon completion of course requirements.

An Accredited program by the Dr. Vodder School International

Kathy Fleming, PT, CLT-LANA

Dr. Vodder’s Manual Lymph Drainage® (MLD) is a gentle, non-invasive, but powerfully effective manual technique designed to boost the functioning of the lymphatic system, cleanse the connective tissue of inflammatory materials and toxins, reduce pain, lower the activity of the sympathetic nervous system and help enhance immune response, thereby facilitating the healing of injuries, chronic conditions, inflammation, and edemas. Research has proven its efficacy as a stand-alone treatment and in combination with other therapies. MLD has grown to be the world’s most well-known manual technique to assist lymphatic drainage.

In MLD the skin is stretched and torqued in a specific manner that has been proven by extensive scientific physiological research to encourage lymph flow. If performed correctly with the correct pressure, direction.5 and speed, this technique can greatly enhance lymph drainage and boost the parasympathetic nervous system, helping speed a patient’s recovery from acute or chronic illness. MLD has profound positive effects on many of the body’s systems, and is also calming and relaxing, giving patients a deep sense of well-being after treatment.

This program offers the original Dr. Vodder Method of Manual Lymph Drainage® (MLD) and Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT) with the highest standards of training, led by one of North America’s leading and most knowledgeable instructors. Accredited by the Dr. Vodder Schule in Austria and by the Vodder family, this school is one of only two Vodder Schools in the world authorized to teach the original Vodder method of Manual Lymph Drainage.

This intensive five-day Basic Full Body MLD class, the first segment of four weeks of classes leading to Dr. Vodder MLD certification, involves extensive hands-on work and a lot of personal attention and supervision, and will help us develop excellent sensitivity and hand skills. It covers: the basic strokes and their application to each body part (neck, face, arm, leg, back, nape, buttocks, chest, breast, and abdomen); the anatomy and physiology of the lymph vessel system and of connective tissue; the effects of MLD and its contraindications; and how MLD can affect lymphedemas. Subsequent sections of the training impart a range of more advanced techniques that permit practitioners to apply MLD to more serious or complex (e.g. orthopedic, burn, edema, dermatological, pre- or post- surgical, etc.) conditions or situations.

Note: Enrollment is open to the following Licensed or Certified Health Care Practitioners: Acupuncturists; MDs; OT Assistants (COTA)*; Chiropractors; Naturopaths; Physical Therapists; Dentists; Osteopaths; PT Assistants (PTA)*; Homeopaths; Nurses; Physicians’ Assistants*; Occupational, Speech and Massage therapists (for Massage Therapists: a minimum of 500 hours in the curriculum of a massage therapy school or successful completion of the U.S. National Certification exam is required).

Note: In this class you will receive a Certificate of Completion. This Basic class is a prerequisite for Therapy I. Therapy I is a prerequisite for Therapy II & III; and Therapy II & III is the final course to become certified.

Class time: 40 hrs (Practical 32 hours, Theory 8 hours) The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NC BTMB) has approved the Dr. Vodder School–International as a continuing education provider, awarding credit of 40 hours for completion of this class.

REIKI SYSTEM of NATURAL HEALING

Spiritual Healing • Path of Empowerment • Treatment for Self and Others • Spiritual Centering Practice

Program Director: Joanna Crespo, MBA, Reiki Teacher

The Reiki System of Natural Healing was developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk. The word “rei-ki” means “spiritual energy” or “transcendent life force” in Japanese, and the Reiki System was brought to the West over 80 years ago. Increasing acceptance and use in hospitals, hospices, spas and wellness centers has made the Reiki System one of the most in-demand healing modalities in the United States and around the world. The Reiki System (1) uses non-invasive, gentle touch; (2) accelerates the body’s natural healing
processes; (3) supports mental and emotional healing; and (4) gives an overall sense of profound well-being.

Benefits of the Reiki System include:
• reducing stress
• strengthening the immune system
• easing pain and physical discomfort
• balancing and harmonizing emotions
• enhancing mental clarity and creativity
• facilitating personal and spiritual growth

Special Features:
• Uniquely blends the classical Japanese tradition with the Western Reiki style
• Highly experiential classes
• Grounded, professional training
• Experienced teachers dedicated to personal and professional Reiki practice
• Every class includes demonstrations and supervised, hands-on practice
• Mentoring and answering questions is provided outside of class

The use of suction cups on strategic acupuncture points has long been used in East
Asian traditional medicine to remove toxins and promote healing by spurring the
production of red blood cells and boosting immune response. With the development of new state-of-the-art equipment, cupping’s potential applications have greatly expanded in contemporary holistic health-care to include facial cupping, biomagnetics, sports and orthopedic cupping, and other new techniques. Today, a leading international expert will give us a solid introduction to the many uses of this highly effective healing modality. We will get to work with and experience treatments with some of the best contemporary cupping equipment and walk away with a solid understanding of the theory, benefits, safety considerations, and contraindications of cupping therapies.

Note: Completion of this workshop qualifies attendees for a discount for the 3 Day Certification Program in Contemporary Cupping Methods (approved by NCCAOM®), Oct. 13–15.
