Swedish massage, developed by a Swedish physiologist in 1812, is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. It uses firm but gentle pressure to: improve circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, enhance digestion and sleep, improve flexibility and create a profound sense of relaxation and well-being. In this class we will learn Swedish massage’s five essential techniques: long, gliding strokes; the kneading of individual muscles; friction; hacking or tapping; and vibration. We will also learn how to use massage oil to facilitate long, smooth strokes; and “draping,” a technique in which a recipient’s body is partially covered. Every class will include demonstrations and supervised, hands-on practice.
FREE INTRO: Thursday, January 6, at 6pm.
